The Sky’s the Limit

TWF Solutions are pleased to announce that sponsorship money raised by the TWF Solutions Dragon Boat Team, Not So Swift, has been donated to Freedom in the Air (FITA).

FITA is a unique flying school for people with disabilities. It was established in 2007 with the purpose of making flying more accessible for young people with disabilities who would otherwise not have had the opportunity. Learning to fly is a way to change peoples' lives, building confidence and re-igniting self-belief. For many people with disabilities, flying an aeroplane is empowering. People feel free, liberated from their disability with nothing to hold them back. There are no differences between disabled pilots and able-bodied pilots - in the air, everyone is equal.

Gautam Lewis, founder and director of FITA is an inspirational figurehead and as he works as an active ambassador for the Rotary Eradicate Polio Campaign, this donation was the perfect fit.

TWF would like to join FITA in celebrating the spirit that the Sky’s the limit and hope that the money raised will go a little way in helping them reach their goals.  FITA is currently working towards the completion of the new “Freedom Hand control” development for the single engine Cessna and Piper aircraft. Cranfield University School of Aerospace Engineering have been collaborating on the new rudder hand control that will make flying small aircraft more accessible and inclusive for pilots with lower limb disabilities.  Hand controls allow full rudder and steering authority on the ground and in the air, removing the need to use legs and feet.  Currently, disabled pilots rely on hand controls that not only have significant design flaws but are no longer being manufactured.

TWF team name, Not So Swift, was a nod to another company in the Group, Swift Aircraft. Swift Aircraft is developing a new British designed and manufactured light aircraft with the hope of being part of an aviation industry renaissance in the UK.  TWF has played an integral part in the aesthetic design of the aircraft, together with providing all additional design and marketing services to the company.

TWF is proud to be a part of the Swift Aircraft project, and honoured to work with the FITA projects and its people.

The Rotary Nene Valley Dragons is an annual event held in Northamptonshire, it’s lots of fun and helps raise money for some great projects. Fancy joining in the fun next year?
